OLD BUSINESS
Golf Club Donation to SAJGA (Southern Arizona Junior Golf Association)
Publicity is underway for the golf club donation to SAJGA to be held on October 25. Karen Pertou is currently writing articles. People will be reminded of what to do. Collection will be made at the far end of the Mountain View Clubhouse. Karyle Steele needs help in the signing area. Suggestions made for the smooth operation of that day were to have a sign-up sheet as people bring in their donations. Karen Koch has a wooden sign holder that can be used. Balloons were suggested, as well as possibly using the invitational sponsor signs. Channel 2 advertising for a 2-week period for $25 was also suggested.
Ya Ya Sisterhood Event on Tuesday, July 29
Saddlebrooke Niners have collected their own registration fee for the Ya Ya Sisterhood event and will write a check to us. Mary Gelinas has done the cart signs.; Karyle Steel will add players names to them. Lynn Hull has coordinated the decorations. Photographs during the event are needed. Photos should be sent to Holly Reviere who is doing the end-of-the-year video this year. Photos will also be posted on the website.
State Medallion Budget information
MPLN pays roughly $300 for room and board for the golfers sent to State Medallion.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Posting Issues
Some golfers are not posting their casual play, the rounds played outside Tuesday league day. A discussion was held about heightening the awareness of posting casual play. Any rounds of golf played by the rules of golf should be posted in order to have a legitimate handicap index for invitationals. A discussion was held on the timely manner of posting. Karen Koch moved that MPLN post by Wednesday at 12:00 instead of Thursday at noon. (Rationale: 1. The majority does post within 24 hours. 2. Niners would find out results 24 hours sooner. 3. This change would give the pairings tournaments chairs a chance to finish one week before starting the next week. Currently, there is no down time. The weekly tournament chairs get the information of who hasn’t posted and also the names of the next weeks players on the same day when posting is done by Thursday at 12:00.)
Rita Smith seconded the motion. The motion was approved. This information will be put in the newsletter in 2 weeks, starting August 12.
B. Mary Canfield’s 90th birthday is approaching. MPLN will celebrate the occasion with a birthday cake at the September luncheon.
C. End-of-the-year Recognition of the old and new MPLN Board
Holly asked the board to think about ways to thank the current board members at the end of the year for their service without budget overspending to give each person a gift. Several suggestions were made: Donate $200 to SAJGA in their name, put their picture in the newspaper, print each a certificate of appreciation, give each old and new board member a flower.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
Ace of the Month
Rita Smith reminded the board that a policy is in effect that no award for Ace of the Month will be given to the same person twice. This is because more people will be able to win, a “share the wealth” philosophy. Holly will explain and announce this to the membership.
Holly reminded everyone to wear their blue niner shirts and khaki, black or white shorts to the Ya Ya Sisterhood tournament Tuesday, July 29. The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
