MPLN BOARD MEETING

                                                      August 27, 2007

 

Meeting called to order by President, Pam Brunelle, at 3:30 at the Mountain View Clubrooms.

 

PRESENT:  Pam Brunelle, Cheryl Peel, Caralee Taylor, Betty Kunnen, Diane Stowell, Mary Gelinas, Carin Kirby, Marianne Cooley, Jeane Liske, Holly Riviere, Linda Andrews, Dolly Larson. 

 

WELCOME/VERBAL BOUQUETS:  A special welcome back was given to Holly Riviere who recently had surgery.  A special thank you to Caralee Taylor and Kathy Linder for sending Sunshine Baskets to Holly and to Marilyn Bertke after their surgeries.  A thank you to Caralee Taylor and Dolly Larson for attending a Food &  Beverage meeting in the absence of Pam Brunelle and Holly Riviere. 

 

COMMUNICATIONS:  Thank you cards were read from Holly Rivere and Marilyn Bertke for the special Sunshine Packages they received from the Niners.  A thank you note was read from Barbara Brown for our donation to the Esophagus Charity in her daughter’s name. 

 

MINUTES:  Diane Stowell moved that the minutes from July 23, 2007 be approved as sent.  Mary Gelinas seconded the motion.  There were no corrections or additions to the minutes and they approved unanimously by the Board. 

 

TREASURER:  Caralee Taylor gave a copy of the report to all board members.  She briefly went over the entries, and talked about the future donations.    A copy of this report is attached to the Secretary's copy.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES:  MPLN Members have had an opportunity to weigh in on their thoughts regarding the use of Distance Measuring Devices since May.  Following the policy of the Niners, the Board will vote on the proposed policy at the next Board meeting on September 24, 2007.  The results of the vote will be available for the Niners Luncheon on September 25, 2007.

 

JUNIOR GOLF DONATION:  A donation of $600 from the MPLN and golf equipment from Sue Ball's family will be presented to representatives of the Junior Golf Association at the September 25 luncheon on September 25, 2007. 

 

            SUMMER ACTIVITIES:              

                        YA YA  SISTERHOOD hosted by Saddlebrooke:  Holly reported that all went well               and everyone had a wonderful time.   

                        MountainView/The Preserve Lady Niners will be hosting this event next year. 

 

                        HELL’S BELLES (9'er - 18'er Tournament):  Carin Kirby reported that the                            tournament was a huge success and everything went as planned.

 

                        GALLERY OUTING:  Caralee reported that we have nine responses so far for                                  the September 11 event.

                        We can have 15 participants.  Tee time will be 9:30.  Car pools will be

                        organized when Pam knows who will be attending. 

 

                        QUAIL CREEK:  Betty said that Quail Creek reported that responses have been

                        very slow, and they will take as many players as we can send. 

                         

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

            LUNCHEON AND BUSINESS MEETING to be held September 25, 2007 in the East Ballroom.  There will be tables to accept donations of non-perishable food items and personal hygiene items to be donated to the Catalina Community Center.  It was agreed to honor the Sonoran Singers who will perform at the luncheon.  There will be guests attending as potential new members, and representatives from the Junior Golf Association.    

 

            FOOD/BEVERAGE CHANGES:  There was an informational meeting held with the representatives of the golf groups to address the price changes for 2008.  All contracts already signed for 2007 will be honored.  The discussion was what impact these changes will have on the future luncheon attendance.  Menu changes and pricing changes are available and attached to the Secretary’s report.

 

            RE-HANDICAPPING:  Cheryl Peel was invited to sit in on an 18’er meeting recently. Using 400 18’er scores, the committee re-evaluated the The Preserve Course slope and rating The AGA approved those changes and they have been implemented as of last month.  6 holes were changed and this will be reflected when posting. 

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS: (AS NEEDED)

 

            MEMBERSHIP & TOURNAMENT ADVISOR:  Holy reported that Nancy Claffey and            Marcia Wilson are the chairs of the Ladies Choice tournament on October 30.  All is well           under control.  Holly will hold orientation this week for one new member. 

 

            GREEN COMMITTEE:  Marilyn Bertke was unable to attend but ask that members be        reminded to read the new Friday e-mails (Friday Flagstick).  These are posted on our           web site

 

            HANDICAPS:  Cheryl Peel reported that she has been tracking chip-ins.  Many members                have been successful so far this year.

            WEEKLY TOURNAMENT CHAIR:  Linda reported that the Robson qualifier rounds will        be in Sept, Oct, and November.  There will also be an opportunity for golf on the day of the Gallery outing on September 11, 2007. There was also a concern about the low    participation of members signing up for Tuesday Golf.  Board Members were asked to

            talk to Niners and see if there is a concern that needs to be addressed.

 

            OUTSIDE INVITATIONALS:  Betty reported that she had received a letter informing us         that Tucson National will be having a tournament on March 3, 2008.  She again           mentioned the Quail Creek Tournament which is being held September 20th.
